Went into this pathetic shop to buy a small file to sharpen my hedge trimmers. I had to buy a set of 5 of different shapes. No problem with that, but when I got them home and noticed after opening the pack that the one I wanted to use only had an effective seration for filing down one side on each side of the blade, the other side was smooth. It's as if the machine that made the file didn't imprint the seration equally, in fact not at all down one side. Also, there appeared to be metal factures/cracks in the metal. I decided to try it anyway, thinking that the cracks may not have been deep ones , but as soon as I applied only MINIMAL pressure, the thing just snapped like match wood. I went back to the shop and the poor excuse for a proprietor behind the counter said that he wouldn't change them because I'd broken it. I showed him the lack of seration down one side and the fractures and to show how weak the blade was, I took the piece that snapped off, which was about 2 inches long, and held it gently at each end with my forefinger and thumb and it broke just as easily as before, like a rich tea biscuit, i.e. with barely any pressure and right before his very eyes. They were clearly flawed "seconds" that he got cheap, files that didn't get through quality control. A lolly pop stick would have been less likely to break. After seeing how utterly fragile the metal that the file was made of was, he STILL wouldn't change them or offer a refund. It seems that the shop is under new management and I know for a fact that the previous owner would have done the right thing and either changed them or given me a refund, especially as I was a regular customer who has spent £100's in that shop on tools, decorating tackle and even £100's just on contiboard shelving for my own power tool shop. I'm often buying DIY hand tools and materials, but will never use that particular shop again as long as I live, so the owner has shown what a poor businessman he is ..... and all for the profit he made on a £4.50 set of files, so what's that? About a quid? What he should have done was to simply refund me my money and sent the useless files back to the supplier and got reimbursed himself and he might have saved his reputation. That's what I used to do in my shop when I had it and most of my business was repeat business because I actually cared about my customers. All I can say is what a rip off the new proprietor of Dee Bee's is, so if you use the shop in the future because of the excellent reputation of the previous owners, then do yourself a favour and go to either Longley's (about 100 yards away) or B + Q at Corton Wood instead, because when this charlatan sells you shoddy, flawed goods, you have zero chance of getting a refund or replacement and will be blamed for how cheap and tacky and crap the products are.
